Fantasy Football: Playing the waiver wire for Week 5
TE Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders
Thomas missed Week 3 after suffering a concussion in Week 2, but he returned against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 and he finished with three catches for 41 yards. More broadly, he cleared a 75 percent snap share for the second time in as many full games. He has also topped 7.0 full PPR points in all three games he has played this season.
Week 5 brings a nice-looking matchup against the Chicago Bears' bad pass defense. Beyond that, Thomas has favorable matchups against the Atlanta Falcons (Week 6), the New York Giants (Week 7) and the Eagles again (Week 8).
Viable fantasy tight ends, beyond the top tier, can fade just as quickly as they land on the radar. But Thomas looks to have a bit of staying power, with a prominent snap share providing some sort of floor and the upside for a pop-off game once in awhile.

TE Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals
After a down week in Week 2 (two catches for six yards), Ertz was back on it with six catches (on 10 targets) for 53 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, and he dropped a touchdown on the second-to-last play of the game. He has at least eight targets three times this season, topping 50 yards the last two games where he got that volume.
In Week 5 Arizona takes on the Cincinnati Bengals, who are lined up to be bottom-five in the league against tight ends entering Week 5. After that, there are no especially daunting matchups on Ertz's schedule, the defense will line up plenty of passing volume and the Cardinals have the latest possible bye (Week 14).
There's a possibility Ertz is traded to a contender who needs a tight end by the end of the month. But that stands to only improve his fantasy outlook. With some favor to PPR formats, he's in the TE1 conversation until further notice.
