5 Fantasy Football replacements for Aaron Rodgers
With over 11 minutes left in the first quarter of the Monday night game between the Jets and the Bills, quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Rodgers completed no passes in his Jets debut before getting sacked and injured. SNY's Connor Hughes has reported that head coach Robert Saleh declared third-year pro Zach Wilson as the team's starter for the remainder of 2023. Saleh and the Jets now have confirmation of the injury, and the team and fantasy owners alike will need to find ways to move forward without Rodgers.
#5. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers, ESPN Ownership: 24.5 percent
So you've lost Aaron Rodgers for the season, but unless you're also a Jets fan, there's no reason to panic. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is one of the best and most efficient QBs in the NFL, and has passed for two or more touchdowns in all seven of his regular season starts against just three interceptions in the same span. That gives him a total of 15 touchdowns and three picks over seven starts.
After another really strong outing against the Steelers on Sunday, Purdy finds himself as fantasy's ninth-highest scoring QB, just below the likes of Trevor Lawrence and Patrick Mahomes. While the sophomore signal caller isn't a high-volume passer like those two, he's very efficient and executes Kyle Shanahan's offense well.
Purdy is available in over three-quarters of ESPN's fantasy leagues, and his stats are buoyed by arguably the best supporting cast in the NFL. With Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk at his disposal, Purdy is a good bet for fringe-QB1 numbers every day that ends in Y. It helps that 2022's Mr. Irrelevant also leads the NFL in QBR through Week 1. He'll look to stay on track against the division rival Rams in Week 2.
