Fantasy Football: Rhamondre Stevenson expected to miss multiple weeks
It has been perhaps the most forgettable season in New England Patriots history and now their starting running back, and perhaps only fantasy-relevant player, is reportedly going to miss an extended period of time.
Rhamondre Stevenson left Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with an ankle injury. Stevenson had 39 yards rushing and one reception in the game before being forced to leave and now, though initial X-rays came back negative, it sounds like the running back likely has a sprained ankle and could miss multiple weeks.
With the fantasy football playoffs set to start soon, this couldn't come at a worse time for fantasy owners. And with the kind of season New England is having, there won't be any rush to get him back on the field and a situation could certainly exist where he is shut down for the rest of the year.
Stevenson was coming off of a huge 2022 season in which he rushed for 1,040 yards and also caught 69 passes. He scored a total of six touchdowns and coming into this season, he was looked at as a budding star in the fantasy world.
But on a poor Patriots team, he has been one of the bigger disappointments, at least at the running back position.
If you own Stevenson in a seasonal league, you are going to have to look for other options. If your depth is too shallow, find the best option possible on the waiver wire and with the playoffs ready to start, you'll need to consider spending most of your remaining FAAB (if your league utilizes that) to make sure you secure them.
If you are one of those guys who like to grab a player on the same roster, the only other running backs on the 53-man roster for the Patriots are Ezekiel Elliott and JaMychal Hasty. There is a good chance that Elliott is already owned.
If you own Stevenson in a dynasty league, his future is still bright. You may just want to stick him on an available injured reserve spot and hope that he isn't rushed back unnecessarily.
