Follow this blueprint to win your Fantasy Football league in 2023
- Going RB first is done
- The right handcuff can be the best draft pick
Let the other players in your league take RBs early
Remember when you starting playing fantasy football and it was just a slam dunk that your first pick was going to be a running back? Those days should be dying off rather quickly.
Many players still use this strategy because the running backs are seen as the guys who get the most opportunities with the football. But how often is that even the case anymore?
Remember last year when Jonathan Taylor was easily the consensus No.1 overall pick in fantasy drafts? Did anyone who took him No. 1 overall win their league?
Running backs just don't get the usage that they once did, which is why you see teams refusing to pay up for that position around the league.
The NFL is a passing league now and has been for some time. That's why I am baffled every year when I go to my drafts and eight of the first 10 picks are running backs.
It's been time to change this thought but you can start taking advantage of it now. When your pick comes up in the first round, the top wide receiver on the board — someone like Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase or Tyreek Hill — are going to be better picks than pretty much any running back.
You can start your build with a top-flight wide receiver or quarterback and wait to get that running back. This year is an especially good one to wait on a running back until the fourth round.
Depending on how many teams are in your league, Breece Hall, Najee Harris, Joe Mixon and Josh Jacobs are all running backs who you can get later in the draft.
So let the guys ahead of you go get Nick Chubb or Bijan Robinson or Saquon Barkley. Those are the guys who are going to have average players at the positions where passing is key (QB, WR) in a league that is pass-happy and has been for some time now.
