Target the handcuffs or running backs with injury histories

One of the best picks you can make in any draft is to snag a key handcuff that pays off down the road. These picks can turn into the value of one made many rounds earlier.

If you are in a spot in your draft where you are comfortable with the lineup you have selected, rather than drafting a fifth wide receiver, the right handcuff can be an excellent pick. And that is for more than one reason.

For one, the owner who is holding the starting running back for that team, particularly if they are nervous about that player's injury history, could offer you the kind of trade that you can make them overpay for. Beyond that, if you hold onto this player, and that starter goes down, you suddenly have a gem. The kind of gem that would easily be the most-added player that week on the waiver wire.

Here are my top five running back handcuffs for this season, in no particular order:

A.J. Dillon, Green Bay Packers
Samaje Perine, Denver Broncos
David Montgomery, Detroit Lions
Damien Harris, Buffalo Bills
De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins
