Most disappointing player at each position in fantasy football through first half of 2023 season
Wide Receiver: Brandin Cooks, Dallas Cowboys
There were fantasy players who felt that Brandin Cooks signing with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was a perfect marriage. It sure looked like it was, as it would give Dak Prescott that deep threat that could take the top off of a defense.
CeeDee Lamb is a superstar for the Cowboys but aside from that, the team has been spreading the ball around in the passing game and Cooks has not found a way to emerge as a No. 2 option or even a No. 3 option.
On the season, Cooks has just 17 receptions for 165 yards. Yards per reception, a category he used to excel in, have not been there either as that translates to just 9.7 yards per catch. In short, Cooks in Dallas just has not worked so far.
Redraft outlook: I have seen many leagues in which Cooks has been flat-out dropped, and it's certainly understandable for any fantasy player to follow suit. It's hard to expect much from him with what we have seen so far. It's clear that Mike McCarthy doesn't care about your fantasy team.
Dynasty outlook: Cooks recently turned 30 years old, but he could still have some tread on the tires as that is not ancient for a wide receiver. I wouldn't be as patient as I would with Sanders, so if you need a roster spot to open, Cooks could be a trade candidate. But if not, stash him and hope things improve.
