Preseason rankings for all 32 projected starting kickers
By Jaren Kawada
26. Matt Prater, Arizona Cardinals
2023 rank: 31
Field goals: 28-33 (84%)
Extra points: 22-23 (96%)
Without Kyler Murray for half the season, Prater just could not get enough opportunities to make a difference as the offense struggled in 2023. His production unsurprisingly picked up late in the year but still finished with just 23 extra point attempts. At 40 years old, age would figure to be a factor but Prater hit a career-high nine field goals from beyond 50 yards in 2023 and will play with an improved offense on paper.
25. Graham Gano, New York Giants
2023 rank: 33
Field goals: 11-17 (65%)
Extra points: 8-8 (100%)
In his first three years with New York, Gano was one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL but took a massive step back in 2023, connecting on just 65 percent. His season was further limited with injuries holding him to just eight games but the misses were still concern for a player who hit 97 percent of his attempts just four years ago. At 37, age could be catching up to Gano and the Giants brought in undrafted rookie Jude McAtamney to compete with him in the offseason. Assuming he makes the roster, Gano was still accurate from long range, hitting three of his four attempts beyond 50 yards in 2023 despite his struggles, which is currently the saving grace of his value.
24. Cam Little, Jacksonville Jaguars
2023 rank: NA
Field goals: NA
Extra points: NA
Little was not on most big boards ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft but ended up being one of three kickers selected in the sixth round. In college at Arkansas, Little was known for his strong leg, hitting 64 percent of his attempts from 50 yards or longer. His overall accuracy was also elite, having never missed an extra point in his career and nailing 83 percent of his total attempts.
23. Ka'imi Fairbairn, Houston Texans
2023 rank: 26
Field goals: 27-28 (96%)
Extra points: 21-22 (95%)
Fairbairn has been frustratingly inconsistent throughout his tenure but was on his way to having a career year in 2023 before getting injured. Injuries have been the story of Fairbairn's career, as he has been oddly plagued by them, missing nine total games in the last three years. Fairbairn always has the potential to be a top-10 kicker in fantasy but has been more of a boom-or-bust option, not something managers want to deal with at the position.
22. Nick Folk, Tennessee Titans
2023 rank: 20
Field goals: 29-30 (97%)
Extra points: 28-30 (93%)
Since finding his way back into the league in 2020, Folk has been one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL. Entering his age-39 season, Tennessee signed undrafted rookie Brayden Narveson in the offseason but it is difficult to see Folk losing his job at this point. The Titans' offense should improve enough in 2024 to give Folk an uptick in field goal attempts, potentially giving him top-10 upside.
21. Chris Boswell, Pittsburgh Steelers
2023 rank: 18
Field goals: 29-31 (94%)
Extra points: 27-28 (96%)
With just 31 field goal attempts in 2023, Boswell was unfortunately one of the many victims of Kenny Pickett's inefficiency on the Pittsburgh offense. Still one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, Boswell nailed 94 percent of his attempts last season but will need a substantial increase in offensive production to become a fantasy asset, something that does not appear likely with the Steelers punting at the third-highest rate during the preseason. The team also signed journeyman Matthew Wright, who hit 12 field goals in just four games with Pittsburgh in 2022 when Boswell was sidelined.
