The first half of the 2023 season saw plenty of disappointments for fantasy football. However, there were also a number of pleasant surprises. These were players who probably won games some weeks for managers and had performances that no one saw coming.

Puka Nacua

When the Los Angeles Rams announced that Cooper Kupp would begin the season on injured reserve, it seemed unlikely that there were not any Rams wide receivers worth rostering in fantasy football.

However, that quickly changed after the very first game of the season as rookie Puka Nacua had a breakout performance with 10 receptions for 119 receiving yards. For managers who rushed out to add him from the waiver wire were rewarded with a 15 reception, 147 receiving yards game in Week 2.

He hasn't been able to keep that pace recently but still been worth starting as he has had four games with over 70 receiving yards and also has two touchdowns. The uncertainty at quarterback has hindered his production recently but the recent signing of Carson Wentz could turn his season around.
