Alvin Kamara can still help you win your fantasy league in 2023
Alvin Kamara is going to fall down your draft boards this year due to the three-game suspension he will serve to kick things off. Players serving suspensions, much like short-term injuries, are players most drafters want to steer clear from, at least early on.
That makes sense, but a fantasy season, much like an NFL season, is a marathon rather than a sprint. That's why if Kamara is still sitting on the board in the seventh or eighth round of your draft, you should sprint up to the board to put his name sticker under your team's roster.
Kamara just turned 28 years old and despite having over 1,100 career rushing attempts, he will still have some fresh legs under him and should come into the team's Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He will still be a huge part of that team's offense when he gets back on the field as the Saints have a new quarterback in Derek Carr. Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller are also in the backfield while Carr will have Chris Olave and Michael Thomas to throw the ball to, but Kamara might still be the most trusted offensive weapon on the roster.
He is still one of the best receiving running backs in the league and Carr loves to check it down to his backs. Last season, the Las Vegas Raiders had 92 passes caught by a running back.
Also, it's just three games. Your fantasy team should be able to survive three games and if you have Kamara as your RB3, you are sitting pretty. Once he gets back on the field, he should provide more than enough offensive output to give your team what it needs.
Fantasy players often like to talk about "league winners", which tend to be those later-round picks that proved to be worth much more than the slot they were selected in. I firmly believe that Kamara can be one of those players this season.
