Why David Njoku is the top fantasy football TE for Week 16
If you are still alive in your fantasy football playoffs and you have Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku on your roster, you should be smiling from ear to ear.
Njoku has been a fantasy stud lately and if I had every tight end in the league as my disposal this week, I'm playing Njoku. Yes, over Travis Kelce. Yes, over T.J. Hockenson and while I love the rookie Sam LaPorta, over him too.
Let's start with the Browns' Week 16 opponent — the Houston Texans. Only two teams — Denver and Cincinnati — have allowed more receptions to the tight end position this year. Houston has been very giving in that regard, allowing 84 tight end receptions.
Next, Njoku's recent trend is quite solid.
Njoku has already set a career-high in receptions but he is streaking at the right time. He has caught at least 6 passes in five of his last six games and is coming off of a 10-catch, 104-yard performance against the Chicago Bears.
Finally, he has Joe Flacco throwing to him. Flacco has easily been the Browns' most dynamic quarterback this season but throughout his long career, he has always been a guy who favors throwing to the tight end. That is one of the biggest reasons Njoku is emerging in this offense even more.
In the last two games, Flacco has targeted Njoku 22 times. That has resulted in 16 receptions for 195 yards and three touchdowns. What reason would there be to believe that is going to slow down against this Houston defense?
Start Njoku with plenty of confidence this week. Not only that, insert him into your DFS lineups as well. He is going to be one of Week 16's best plays and he could easily help you glide into your league's championship game.
