Fantast Football: DK Metcalf out in Week 7; Jaxon Smith-Njigba breakout game?
For the first time in his career, DK Metcalf is going to be inactive as he is dealing with a hip and rib injury. It is never great to have a good wide receiver like Metcalf miss a plus-matchup game in fantasy football like the Seattle Seahawks have this week against the Arizona Cardinals.
However, this could finally be the breakout game everyone has been waiting for from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He was a first round pick by the Seattle Seahawks and it has been a slow start to his rookie season with no more than six targets in a game.
Last week against the Cincinnati Bengals was his best game of the season as he had four receptions for 48 yards (which was a career high). Now with Metcalf out for this game, those targets are going to be available and it wouldn't be surprising if Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the biggest beneficiary.
Arizona Cardinals giving up big games to wide receivers in fantasy football
According to NFL.com, the Arizona Cardinals this season is allowing the seventh most points to wide receivers this season. So far, wide receivers have caught 91 receptions on 123 targets for 1,195 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is not the same wide receiver as DK Metcalf and is more of a possession wide receiver. However, if the Seahawks need to move the chains and extend drives, then the rookie should be the player Geno Smith looks at against Arizona.
When having a player inactive in these late window games is never easy, if Jaxon Smith-Njigba is on your bench or on the waiver wire in your league, this is an easy replacement and should have a good game in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.
