Fantasy Football: 5 players to add off waivers to replace Christian McCaffrey

The obvious replacement for McCaffrey is the running back that should replace him this week in the 49ers offense. Elijah Mitchell has been the backup for McCaffrey this season and had only 44 rushing attempts entering Week 17 but after the injury suffered by McCaffrey, he would get 17 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Mitchell had a breakout season as a rookie in 2021 when he had 963 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns with 137 receiving yards and one touchdown. He entered 2022 as one of the top running backs because of the offense and what he did as a rookie.

Unfortunately, he was limited to only five games and the 49ers would end up trading for Christian McCaffrey and ended Mitchell's chance at starting. This is a good opportunity for Elijah Mitchell this week and should get a majority of the work out of the backfield in Week 18.
