Fantasy Football News: C.J. Stroud unlikely to play in Week 16
The fantasy football playoffs roll on in Week 16 but for managers with C.J. Stroud on their roster, they are going to probably have to find another quarterback this week. The star rookie quarterback suffered a concussion in Week 14 against the New York Jets and missed last week's game against the Titans.
However, Stroud is still in the concussion protocol and according to ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime, he is likely to miss this weekend's game against the Cleveland Browns.
For most of the season, C.J. Stroud was a low-end QB1 because he was able to protect the football with only one interception through the first six games while throwing nine touchdowns during that stretch. However, after the Texans' bye week the rookie quarterback emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in fantasy football.
In Week 9, Stroud finished as the highest scorer at his position when he had 470 passing yards and five touchdowns against the Bucs. He would finish as QB9 in Week 10, QB13 in Week 11, and then QB4 in Week 13.
What options are there to replace C.J. Stroud in Week 16 for fantasy football?
At this point of the season, options at quarterback might be pretty limited depending on how active the league is. However, one player that could be a good sleeper this week is Baker Mayfield who is coming off an incredible game against the Packers with 381 passing yards and four touchdowns.
This week, the Bucs are playing a Jaguars defense that is allowing the second most points to quarterbacks over the past four weeks. In a game two weeks ago, Joe Flacco was able to throw for 311 passing yards and three touchdowns in the Browns win.
There is no reason that Baker Mayfield can't have a similar performance this week against that same defense.
