Fantasy Football: Sam LaPorta questionable for Wild Card matchup
One of the biggest injuries and availability worth watching this weekend is with Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta. The rookie tight end suffered a knee injury against the Minnesota Vikings in the regular season finale.
It was a remarkable season for LaPorta as he had 86 receptions, 889 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. He would finish fourth in receptions among tight ends, fifth in receiving yards but first in receiving touchdowns.
After Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta is Jared Goff's top target and is a big part of the passing game for the Lions. The good news for the Lions is that LaPorta does have some hope of playing this weekend after being listed as questionable after participating in practice on Friday.
Sam LaPorta will be a gamble for DFS lineups this weekend
For anyone playing in DFS slates that are for the entire Wild Card weekend or even just Sunday's slate, Sam LaPorta is still going to be a gamble for fantasy football players. There is no question that LaPorta is one of the more expensive players but he certainly has tremendous upside as the Rams are allowing the fourth most points to tight ends this season.
The challenge with LaPorta, and while he is a gamble this week, is that the Lions are not playing until the Sunday night game. If LaPorta doesn't play, there won't be many great options to pivot to at that point of the day, if that is an option.
There is also a chance that Sam LaPorta might be available but won't be fully recovered and be used more as a decoy to draw the Rams coverage.
The matchup is great and it wouldn't be surprising if Sam LaPorta finished the weekend as the highest scoring tight end. However, at his salary and with unlikely no options later in the day, it makes sense to look elsewhere at tight end.
